1.Open House Festival – September 2024
Open City events have an array of walking tours through different areas of the city exploring the metropolis’s cultural landmarks and architectural styles. From Regents Canal to the Olympic Legacy walking tour, it is a great way to explore London’s history and architecture in a group with an expert. Open House Festival is a festival that takes place throughout the city, where events can take place across different boroughs through open houses or buildings. It is a free celebration of different neighbourhoods, architectural landmarks and special locations. The festival takes place over the weekends of the 14th and 15th and the 21st and 22nd of September. Booking opens on the 21st of August and there are many opportunities to volunteer and run your related events. Don’t miss the chance to explore real interiors throughout 33 London boroughs.
2.London Design Festival – 14- 22nd September 2024
London Design Festival brings together designers from all over the world to celebrate London as a design capital. In 2019 the festival hosted 600,000 visitors from over 75 countries. Cited as a key moment on the cultural calendar, this festival showcases groundbreaking new work and incorporates designs from previous festivals into the cityscape. This year you can explore Simone Brewster’s Spirit of Place sculptures which have found their place in Harbour Key Gardens in Wood Wharf. Vibrant designs and stunning installations can be found all over the city for this annual industry – you can investigate the installations from 2023 here.
3.Material Matters – 18 – 21 September 2024
Material Matters is part of the London Design Festival and takes place in the iconic barge house at the OXO Tower Wharf. An exploration into material intelligence, the exhibition space enquires into the usage of materials, showcasing new materials and how they can work within a circular economy. 40 leading brands, designers, makers and manufacturers gather here to show their work and learn and develop together in this educational experience.
4. The Decorative Fair – 1- 6th October 2024
The Autumn Decorative Fair takes place at Evolution London in Battersea Park. A haven for collectors of antiques, textiles, and art, this fair draws design enthusiasts from around the globe. Included in this Autumn Fair is the Tribal Art London Fair which will add a rich dimension of ethnographic art and artefacts to London. A dog-friendly event with an all-day eatery, this is a whole day out for treasure hunting and browsing for inspiration.
5. The Affordable Art Fair
Evolution in Battersea is the place to be for all things collectable, with the Autumn International Affordable Art Fair held there from the 16th to the 20th of October. Artwork from £50 –£7,500, including original work, will be on sale. With such a wide range of art, there is scope for finding work to chime in with bespoke interiors. With talks on next-generation art, and defining the abstract, it is more than an art fair. Late-night sessions with DJs give artists and buyers a chance to unwind and network on Thursday and Friday evenings.
6. Decorex – 6- 9th October 2024
Decorex at Olympia Events has been hosting Europe’s leading interior design event. A place to meet everyone in the industry and to showcase high-end designs and innovations. 46 years in, Decorex is a celebration of interior design in London and a melting pot of inspiration for new and experienced designers. As a visitor, you can get inspired, learn and connect with other people in the industry. As an exhibitor, you can showcase your work and participate in the new wave of creativity for 2024.
7. Frieze – 9- 13th October 2024
Frieze London and Frieze Masters 2024 both take place in October in Regents Park. Furthering their commitment to artistic excellence, new layouts and entrances will guide the experience of the curated fair. With an emphasis on an artist-centred approach, the refined floorplan will exhibit new artists’ work and encourage visitors to reflect on the aesthetic experience of the work. In addition, during Frieze Week there will be a host of exhibitions in the capital. At the National Portrait Gallery will be Francis Bacon: Human Presence, Lygia Clark and Sonia Boyce at the Whitechapel Gallery, as well as Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers at the National Gallery and Haegue Yang: Leap Year at the Hayward Gallery.
